The fact that more than one million tourists visit Costa Rica each year does not happen by chance. Located in Central America, is an isthmus where life seems to have created its roots. Covering only 0.03% of the surface of our planet, Costa Rica has approximately 6% of the world's biodiversity.
In addition, Costa Rica is characterized by an impressive scenic beauty, consolidated system of protected areas, social and political stability, high educational levels, and efficient infrastructure and services. All these characteristics you can find in a territory of only 51 thousand square kilometers, surrounded by both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, only three to four hours away from each other by land or 45 minutes by air.

The spirited provincial capital of Liberia has a distinctively friendly and open feel. Its blinding white houses are a legacy of the pioneering farmers and cattle ranchers who founded it. Liberia's wide, clean streets are used more by cyclists and horsemen than motorists, and you can enjoy a pleasant walk around in the shade provided by the mango trees, though be sure to watch out for the ripe fruit plopping down full-force at your feet. Most travelers use the town simply as a jumping-off point for the national parks of Rincón de la Vieja and Santa Rosa, an overnight stop to or from the beaches of Guanacaste, or a break on the way to Nicaragua, but it also boasts several lively local festivals , the most elaborate of which is on July 25, El Día de la Independencia , celebrating Guanacaste's independence from Nicaragua with parades, horseshows, cattle auctions, rodeos, fiestas and roving marimba bands.

Travelers frequently ask why hotels, resorts and tour operators are willing to offer such substantial discounts.
The answer is based upon the theory of supply and demand. Hotels naturally charge higher rates during traditionally busy periods, but also are eager to offer discounts when decreased demand will likely leave a large number of rooms unoccupied. A hotel room is a perishable commodity - if not sold tonight, that revenue can never be regained. As a result, hotels rely upon advertising and often offer more affordable room rates to attract travelers when expecting to have large numbers of rooms available.
Hotels, resorts and tour operators throughout the country of Costa Rica recognize that in order to fill these times of decreased demands, they need to advertise and let the budget conscious traveler know of the special offers and packages available.
